The Parting Glass. (End of the Year poetry – Part 1)

Italian version

I make one last toast,

a last parting glass,

to this year, but not only.

To these people, who, now,

I no longer feel mine.

As well as a large part of my life.

It’s over here now.

Many things change and they will

Many people are afraid of growing up,

many people are afraid to see the real themselves,

another is afraid of love,

because it is too “dangerous”.

Many people, maybe it will never change,

and no one has been able to be

kind with me,

because she failed to be with herself.

Many people will live in the false,

many people will never know enough about themselves.

And I, who have met all of them,

and that, I must say, to one in particular,

which was a point of reference,

I raise this cup,

I raise this glass,

to her, to your health.

And in the end, the evil I’ve done,

it was not done to anyone,

if not to myself.

Good night to all,

may joy be with you,

may you be happy,

sooner or later.

“Of all the comrades that e’er I had
They’re sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e’er I had
They’d wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all”
